Atlanta - big city or big disappointment
I am originally from Georgia. A small city but the city I am from knows it is a small city. I moved to Atlanta for a better opportunity. The jury is still out as to if I really found a better opportunity.
I am college educated and smarter than your average bear. So I am often amazed at this city we call Atlanta.
Atlanta is mainly comprised of several counties that clump together to make this pseudo city. There are people from College Park to Gainesville to Marietta that say "Oh, I live in Atlanta" No you don't! If you want to disappear, if you want to be something that you aren't - Atlanta is the place. I've never met so many fakes, wannabes, country bumpkins and unskilled individuals as I have met in this city.
Atlanta is not NY nor is it LA and I have a distaste for those who attempt to portray it this way. NY never sleeps - and I know this first hand. You can find pizza, chinese food, movies, books and whatever else that suits your fancy from dusk to dawn in NY. Atlanta - shuts down. Our transit system lacks - it takes you from point A to point G - skipping the subsequent points in between. Part of the track to the airport - shuts down around 7:00 p.m, because the crime rate in that area is bad. So, instead of targeting that area and getting it cleaned up, we shut down the MARTA track and inconveniece travelers. Makes sense, this is of course, Atlanta.
Atlanta does have geat food - from its hole in the wall places to Bob Amick's as well as Tom Cattherall's innovative creations - the food and wine flows abundantly.
Places worth checking out:
Carvers - oh my! My manager took me to lunch there. Hole in the wall but the owners are friendly, the food is like Mom's and it was the best liver and onions I've had since a Woolworth's in my hometown in my early twenties.
One Midtown Kitchen and Two Urban Licks - skip the people watching - go for the downright ambience and food.
Feast in Decatur - decadent. I took my partner there for a surprise lunch one Saturday. Excellent service and food with an intimate setting
The Pecan - the owner Tony is a Southern Gentleman. Friendly, smiling and handsome. He takes classic Southern fare and kicks it up a notch.
Redfish - took partner to this restaurant for Easter Brunch and it was NOT a disappointment. Another refreshing intimate setting.
Java Jive - makes my partner tingle. She loves this breakfast nook. Reminds you of your Mom's kitchen in the 50s. Even the breakfast entrees make you smile. The antique appliances make me swoon.
MetroFresh - go Mitchell! The soups and salads that the God's dine on. The cupcakes by the Atlanta Cupcake Factory are heaven.
Souper Jenny - YUM!!!! Thank you, Jenny for your expansion.
Rice - makes me feel as if I am in Asia. The kid and I dined there and had a pleasant time.
As it stands now...Atlanta is a big disappointment. Keep your eyes and ears on this blog, as I travel about the city I will post.
Keep coming back...more to be added.
